Flessner Post #561 was organized to defend and teach the principles of democracy and to uphold the law of the land, to foster patriotism, to venerate and serve veterans, to instill a sense of obligation to the community, state and nation, to guard the basic freedoms of religion, expression and choice, to support the work of the American Legion and to continue the association with devotion for service to God and country.

HISTORY: Flessner Post #451 was organized on October 5, 1923 with 33 members and the charter was issued the same year. The post was named for Henry Flessner who was the first World War I serviceman killed in action from Larchwood.

The first post commander was R.W. Wyant. The club rooms were maintained on the second floor of the Larchwood Bank. The met above Hendrick's Grocery and Locker Store. City council rooms were used until September of 1960 when the Legion  purchased the old city council rooms and fire house from the town of Larchwood. The Legion shares the building with the American Legion Auxiliary.

Membership is over 60. The present commander is Roy Doherty.
