| Shear Image to Do Local Makeovers
by Jill Funke Every week, millions of viewers tune in to see makeovers on talk shows as well as prime time specials. The anticipation builds as the subject receives a new hairstyle to bring them into the current decade, new makeup to freshen their appearance and new clothing to accentuate the positive aspects of their physique. Often, friends and family are very excited to see their loved one reborn, and many times feel that no one is more deserving of the makeover and the attention. In a few weeks, Jamee Childress and Kristina Vande Stouwe will be doing local makeovers with the help of Carol Doherty. These three stylists from Shear Image in Larchwood are looking for four deserving people from the West Lyon area who deserve to receive a day of prettiness and pampering. A busy mom of two and also the owner of Shear Image, Jamee knows how hard area people work. With families, a house, a job, involvement with their church and community can leave a busy parent feeling that there is barely time to heat up the Spaghettios before soccer practice and ballet, let alone find a moment to wax their eyebrows. It is those same active, yet compassionate people who are the first neighbors to show up with a meal in hand for a friend who has recently experienced difficulty. Since the West Lyon area has so many outstanding members and the staff at Shear Image are so grateful for the support they have realized over the past two years, Jamee says that they would like to give back to the community in their own special way. In November, they will be treating four very deserving people to a makeover complete with hair cut and/or highlights, waxing, makeup and a manicure. Then, those receiving the makeovers will go on a $100 shopping spree for new clothing to keep the pace with their new look. In front of eager family, friends and co-workers who have not seen the updates, these makeover recipients will participate in a reveal that will be held at 7:00p.m. on November 11th at the Sports’ Center. Jamee will be responsible for two of the makeovers and Shear Image’s new stylist, Kristina, will do the other two. These ladies would like anyone interested in receiving a makeover, or anyone who knows a deserving candidate to write a letter outlining the reasons why they should be chosen and send it to Jamee Childress at 1664 IA 182nd Ave., Larchwood, IA 51241 by November 6th. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older, if possible, a picture should be enclosed with the letter and phone numbers are required so that Jamee can contact the winners by November 10th. This event is loosely based on the shows that are aired on television, however, Jamee knows that the experience will be much more meaningful for everyone involved since they will actually know the people who are being made over. She says that it will be very fulfilling to help area women or men take a day to concentrate solely on themselves. As the owner of the salon and a stylist herself, Jamee knows the difference that a good hair cut and style can make on a person’s attitude and self confidence, and looks forward to doing her part to help area residents look their best.
